Kids Speaking Up Magazine is preparing to publish the fifth annual issue of its magazine. We invite you to submit poetry, essays, and artwork for consideration for publication in this issue. The deadline for the 2009 issue is February 20, 2009.

The writing or art you submit should be about a social, national, or global issue that is important to you. Students from elementary, junior high, or high school are eligible to participate. Though most students who submit pieces are from the Goleta/Santa Barbara area, students around the country and the world are welcome to participate. Submissions should be emailed to kidsspeakingup@gmail.com.

Kids Speaking Up is launching the Environmental Action Initiative.

The Environmental Action Initiative encourages action amongst Kids Speaking Up members to care for our planet. Each participant makes a measurable and achievable commitment to increase his or her positive impact on the environment and will receive a Kids Speaking Up Environmental Action Initiative notebook (made from eco-friendly sugar cane) to keep track of progress.

The commitment may be big or small, a daily, weekly, or monthly activity. Be creative and find an action that is meaningful to you. At the end of the school year, initiative participants will receive a certificate of participation. All students, whether in a current Kids Speaking Up chapter or not, are welcome to participate.

Please contact us if you are interested in learning more about the EAI.
