Kids Speaking Up is a non-partisan group started in 2004
by Isabelle D'Arcy, Sophie D'Arcy, and Ben Radersrstorf dedicated to
combating ignorance and apathy in young people. At our junior high and
high schools, we meet weekly to discuss social, national, and global
issues. We discuss peace, racism, sexism, homophobia, protecting our
natural environment, healthcare, abortion, separation of church and
state, separation of powers, worldwide access to education, and
other topics.
We are not yet old enough to vote, but we will be soon. We have
thoughts and feelings about what is going on in our world. The
foundation of our future is being built now. Let us be knowledgeable
about what is going on. If we are educated and take action, we can
and will make a difference and make the world the one we dream of, with
peace, individual expression, and compassion for every single living
being.
As anthropologist Margaret Mead once said, "Never doubt that a small
group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed,
it is the only thing that ever has."
